Bow, Washington At A Glance

The community of Bow is small and located just inland—although its boundaries also extend outwards to Samish Island in the bay. This area has the charm, privacy, and exclusivity of an island, while still being attached to the mainland by a spit. To break it down, it has all the pros of island life without having to wait for a ferry.

Bow is recognized particularly as a quiet, semi-rural alternative to the larger communities in the region, such as Bellingham. At about a 25-minute drive, residents of Bow can easily commute north to the city.

As of 2024, Bow has a population of roughly 500 people.

Explore Bow Real Estate

Because of its size, the community of Bow offers real estate that is more exclusive, and often with higher home prices on average—when compared to other communities and cities in the area. Because of its fewer listings and larger properties, Bow appeals to homebuyers looking for a residence that is more private and secluded.

Single-family homes are the prevalent home type in Bow, although there are some options available for farms and ranches for interested buyers. As mentioned above, homes do tend to be larger on average in both square footage and lot size, and it is not uncommon for floor plans to have four or five (or even more) bedrooms. Additionally, because of the semi-rural landscape of Bow, properties can have buildings (such as barns, farmhouses, etc.), with real estate that appeals to both experienced farmers and those just searching for a countryside escape.

Real estate in Bow does range in build date and condition, with custom-built properties alongside refurbished historic homes. Though homes for sale in Bow lean traditional in style, older properties have often been updated and/or well-preserved. New luxury developments, such as Chuckanut Scenic Estates, are rare to find, but do sometimes pop up on the market. These provide great opportunities for families looking for new neighborhoods to settle down in. Some of the properties in Bow, positioned up on the hills, overlook the water, while others are situated along more rural roads.

Bow real estate also includes Samish Island. This area offers all of the charm, privacy, and exclusivity of an island while still being attached to the mainland by a spit. Samish Island has about 500 single-family homes, and no downtown core or infrastructure. Many of the homes (mostly luxury homes for sale and estates, which draw buyers from across the Western US) on the island are architecturally designed to take advantage of the amazing water views, and there is no need to wait for a ferry.

For those who like the outdoors, the following might just be appealing for a day trip:
